I am obsessed with skin and the 'fresh face' ideal. I actually quite possibly may become a dermatologist in my distant future.
Although I stay out of the sun and spend way too much money on over-priced medical-grade products - I'm far off from complexion perfection. Here's the quick and dirty on what all 20-somethings should make routine (including me).
Products are not everything. Lifestyle is what it all comes down to.
1. Wear sunscreen EVERY DAY. No exceptions, no excuses. (I'm not even going to start my rant regarding tanning - indoor or outdoor.)
2. Hydrate. Flush out those toxins and impurities. Caffeine containing beverages do not count. Water and sparkling water can work like magic. (Okay, and the occasional glass of red wine)
3. Don't touch! Be aware of how often you are putting those greasy fingers on your face. Yes,even just resting your chin in your hand during class. NEVER EVER EVER pick at anything. Take it from someone who knows - it causes much more harm than good.
4. Exercise. Yes, it's true, exercise is good for you body and your skin! Sweat releases toxins, flushes out pores, and tightens your skin.
5. Never sleep with makeup on. Duh. And, sleep on your back. This helps to prevents fine lines and wrinkles.
6. A nighttime ritual you should never skip: A heavy under eye cream, a hydrating oil-free and sunscreen-free night repair lotion that contains alpha hydroxy acids and/or vitamin C ester. Use Rx retinol on your forehead and exfoliate the face at least 3 times a week.
7. Visit a dermatologist at least once a year. Make sure they check your scalp for mole abnormalities, too.
8. Skip makeup whenever you can. When you can't - remember: Less is more. Caking on makeup clogs pores even more.
9. Sleeeeeep! 7-8 hours per night.
10. If you have a blemish that is swelling, take a dose of ibuprofen in the morning. This reduces inflammation and redness.

great tips! i wish i had skin like this! maybe someday!
